Polling stations across New Zealand opened their doors at 9 am on Saturday, marking the start of the country's general election. Over 3.7 million voters are expected to participate in the process to determine the nation's next government. The polls are scheduled to remain open until 7 pm this evening.
The electoral contest involves a range of established political groups, including the ruling National Party and the centre-left opposition Labour Party. Other significant contenders vying for seats include the Green Party, ACT New Zealand, and New Zealand First. Smaller parties, such as the Opportunity Party and Te Pati Maori, are also participating in the election.
A new entrant in this cycle is the Free Palestine Party. Paul Hopkinson, the leader of the party, previously stated to Anadolu that the organization is focused on elevating the Palestinian issue to the forefront of the national campaign.
Once polling stations conclude their operations at 7 pm, officials will initiate a preliminary count of the ballots. The final results for the election are anticipated to be released by November 27.
