Don Mancini, the creator of the iconic horror character Chucky, has publicly slammed rapper Nicki Minaj following her decision to use his creation in a political endorsement. During the lead-up to the recent midterm elections, Minaj, who has previously described herself as one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters, utilized a seemingly AI-generated image of the killer doll to promote the Republican Party. The image depicted the character from the 1988 cult horror film Child's Play wearing a pink suit and a pin that read: “Vote red.”
Mancini, whose creation has evolved into the central antagonist of a franchise spanning eight feature films and a television series, took to X to voice his disapproval. “IMPOSTER…CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION,” he wrote. He followed this statement with another post, emphasizing the character's values within the franchise: “Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE. Chucky says 'A BLUE WAVE' is coming, as BLUE as my fuckin’ eyes!”
The reference to Chucky's family relates to the character Glen/Glenda, who first appeared in the 2004 film Seed of Chucky. In a separate post, Mancini shared a photo of a Chucky doll with blue hair, adding, “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!”
Minaj, who was previously seen appearing on stage with Trump during the midterm campaign, has not issued a response to Mancini’s criticism. Her history with the character dates back to her guest verse on Kanye West's 2010 track “Monster,” where she rapped: “Bride of Chucky is child's play / Just killed another career, it's a mild day.”
The midterm elections ultimately resulted in a significant victory for the Democratic Party, which reclaimed control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Following the results, Donald Trump distanced himself from the Republican losses, claiming on Truth Social that his party would have won in a landslide had he been on the ballot.
