Leading Democratic figures have officially withdrawn their support for Graham Platner, who is currently seeking to unseat Republican Senator Susan Collins in Maine. The party’s decision to distance itself from the candidate follows serious allegations of sexual assault brought forward by a woman with whom Platner was previously in a relationship.
In addition to pulling their endorsements, party leadership has called on Platner to immediately suspend his campaign for the Senate. While Platner had previously managed to maintain his candidacy despite facing other scandals since the launch of his challenge against Senator Collins, these new accusations have prompted a significant shift in his political standing among party allies.
