Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday strongly condemned Houthi militia attacks targeting the main airport in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh. The assaults resulted in the deaths of 12 people and left hundreds wounded.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, President Erdogan affirmed Türkiye's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its people. He denounced the incidents as "unlawful and inhumane attacks," extending condolences to the victims, including those performing the Umrah pilgrimage, and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.
"We want peace and stability across our entire region," Erdogan stated, reiterating Türkiye's commitment to defending peace through a policy of "regional ownership."
In a related development, the president also announced that preparations are underway to submit the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement to parliament in the coming days. This pact, signed in August between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, aims to complete domestic approval procedures.
