Yemeni government forces have initiated military operations against Houthi positions and supply lines within the southwestern province of Taiz. Military spokesman Majid Abdullah al-Nazili shared footage on the social media platform X, which he stated documented successful strikes against Houthi fighters and logistics routes in the Dhubab area and other parts of Taiz. Dhubab is a coastal town situated in the Bab al Mandab district, overlooking the Red Sea near the northern entrance to the strategic strait. Al-Nazili did not disclose specific details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage resulting from these operations.
In a separate development, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree alleged that Saudi warplanes carried out 14 airstrikes and a missile attack over the preceding 24-hour period. According to the Houthis, these strikes impacted the provinces of Taiz, Amran, Marib, and Saada. Meanwhile, Saudi air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the Houthis early on Saturday toward the Riyadh region. Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, confirmed that Saudi forces are actively monitoring missile and drone threats directed toward the kingdom.
The current escalation comes as the conflict in Yemen, which has been ongoing since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, in 2014, continues to intensify. A Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in 2015 to support the internationally recognized government. Fighting has seen a notable resurgence since July, when the Houthis declared a maritime blockade on Riyadh. The group has recently claimed territorial advances along the Red Sea coast and the Bab el-Mandab Strait, while also continuing to target Saudi oil infrastructure.
