The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday expressing its strongest condemnation regarding drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory that targeted Saudi Arabia. The strikes hit the East–West pipeline within the Riyadh and Medina regions, forcing the facility's temporary closure as a precautionary measure and resulting in reported injuries.
The affected pipeline is a critical piece of infrastructure that connects Abqaiq to the Red Sea port of Yanbu. Riyadh has increasingly utilized this route to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, a move that gained significance following the closure of the strait at the beginning of the US war with Iran.
In its official response, Ankara reiterated its steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia. The ministry further commended the Saudi authorities for maintaining a restrained approach intended to prevent the escalation of regional tensions. Türkiye also acknowledged the Iraqi government’s own condemnation of the attacks and its decision to immediately open an investigation to determine the details of the incident and identify those responsible.
Concluding its statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called for an urgent end to all attacks that threaten the security and stability of the region, urging all involved parties to refrain from any actions that could further heighten tensions.
