Costco has officially ended its Costco Next online marketplace, a service that previously allowed warehouse club members to order discounted products and services directly from several dozen companies. The closure of the platform, which featured vendors such as Anker Electronics, Priority Bicycles, and Viking Culinary, appears to have occurred without any prior warning to the public.
Visitors currently attempting to access the Costco Next page on the retailer's website are met with a notice stating that access to the storefronts is no longer available. The message instructs members to refer to a provided list for vendor contact information regarding active return policies. For warranty inquiries or eligible returns, the company now directs members to contact the vendors directly.
The sudden nature of the shutdown was highlighted by reports from various media outlets, including the East Bay Times, which noted on Tuesday, Sept. 1, that the program disappeared without an announcement. The lack of communication has left many members surprised, with some users on Reddit noting that they were only learning about the existence of the service on the same day it was removed.
While the company has not released extensive details regarding the decision to terminate the program, internal perspectives on its development remain on the retailer's site. Nino Garcia, assistant general merchandise manager for Costco Next, previously stated that the concept was born in 2016 but did not fully materialize until several years later. Garcia described a significant learning curve during the program's development, which involved site refinements, product selection, and ensuring suppliers understood the concept, all with the goal of offering members quality goods at a great value.
The program had appeared to be gaining momentum earlier this year. During Costco’s third-quarter 2025 earnings call on May 29, 2025, chief financial officer Gary Millerchip provided an update on the initiative. According to a S&P Global Market Intelligence transcript, Millerchip reported that sales for the three-month period ending May 11, 2025, equaled the program's total sales for the entire 2022 fiscal year. At that time, he also expressed excitement regarding a pipeline of new vendors in development for future rollout. Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the closure.
