Apple is preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with the upcoming launch of the iPhone Ultra, scheduled for 9 September. This new device represents the company’s first foray into foldable technology, featuring two distinct displays: an internal 19.8-centimetre screen that opens like a book and a 13.5-centimetre external screen for standard smartphone use. The device is expected to include a four-camera system, with two lenses on the back, one internal camera, and a front-facing selfie camera. Leaked images of screen protectors suggest the handset may feature asymmetrical corners, with right-angle corners on the left and curved corners on the right.
Market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that Apple will quickly dominate the sector, estimating sales of more than 10 million units within the first year. Analysts believe the company is well-positioned for this transition due to its extensive experience with large-screen and multi-window software on the iPad. The base model is expected to be priced between €2,200 and €2,500, while versions with increased storage will range from €2,600 to €3,000.
The 9 September event also marks a significant leadership transition for the company. It will serve as the first public introduction of incoming CEO John Ternus, who will host the presentation. Ternus, the former senior vice president of hardware engineering, officially succeeds outgoing CEO Tim Cook on 1 September. In addition to the iPhone Ultra, the event is expected to feature the Apple Watch Series 12, the Apple Watch Ultra, the iPad mini 8, and the AirPods Pro, alongside updates for the Apple TV and HomePod mini.
