King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to embark on an autumn tour of the Caribbean and South America, with visits scheduled for the Bahamas, Guyana, and Antigua and Barbuda. The royal trip coincides with the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, which is slated to begin on Nov. 1 in St. John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda.
The tour will officially commence on Oct. 27 in the Bahamas, a nation where King Charles III serves as head of state, one of 14 such countries outside of the United Kingdom. Following his time in the Bahamas, the King will travel to Guyana for a state visit. This visit is intended to commemorate 60 years of bilateral relations between Britain and the South American nation. Guyana, which was formerly a British colony, transitioned into a self-governing dominion in 1966 before becoming a fully independent republic in 1970.
As the symbolic head of the Commonwealth, King Charles III oversees an association of 56 independent countries that maintain historic ties to Britain. The organization includes a diverse range of members, from major economic powers like India, Canada, and Australia to smaller island nations such as Tuvalu. The Commonwealth heads of government gather every two years to address shared challenges, foster cooperation, and pursue strategies for development.
