The wedding of Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez, long the subject of public curiosity and intense speculation, has finally been unveiled through an exclusive feature in Vogue. While fans had widely predicted a lavish, grand event, the couple opted for a quiet, intimate ceremony at their home in Cascais. The marriage took place at 13:30 on Tuesday, 11 August, marking exactly ten years since the couple first met at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina was working as a sales assistant.
The guest list for the event was kept strictly limited. In addition to the couple's five children—Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior, twins Eva and Mateo, and daughters Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda—there were only four witnesses present. These included Miguel Paixão, a long-time friend of the footballer from his early days at Sporting, Georgina’s sister Ivana Rodríguez, and close friends Jose Rodríguez Sangil and his wife, Monica Gonzalez Martinez, a Spanish jeweller. It has also been confirmed that the couple entered into a separation-of-assets marriage regime.
The secrecy surrounding the wedding was due to an exclusive arrangement with Vogue, which published the official photos on its website this Sunday, with plans to feature them in the upcoming September print edition. The couple also graces the cover of the magazine's digital summer edition. Captured by photographer Juergen Teller, the images provide an intimate look at the couple's life, including a photo shoot with Georgina and their children, and scenes of the couple exercising together at home.
The visual documentation highlights the couple's understated fashion choices. For the ceremony, Ronaldo wore a simple light-coloured suit paired with a white shirt, lacking buttons or a tie, while Georgina opted for a white skirt-and-jacket ensemble with a matching shirt. The images also showcase high-end Chopard jewellery worn by Georgina, alongside details such as Ronaldo’s rosary beads and items from Georgina’s shoe collection. While the legal ceremony was civil, the imagery also confirms that the family attended a mass to receive a blessing for their union.
Reflecting on the day, Georgina shared her shift in perspective regarding her childhood dreams of a grand wedding. She told the magazine that while she once envisioned a large castle, a grand carriage, and a diamond-encrusted crown, her current reality led her to choose intimacy. She noted that given their daily access to luxury—such as houses, islands, and horses—the rarity of a private, intimate moment with her partner and children was far more meaningful. As journalist Gaby Wood noted in the accompanying story, in the economy of fame, privacy is truly priceless.
Until this Sunday, it was the most talked-about and, at the same time, most secret wedding anyone could remember. Everyone knew that Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez were going to get married, but no one knew when or where. Those who bet on Funchal lost. And those who imagined a gigantic ceremony with hundreds of guests did too.
