Yemen’s Defence Ministry reported that government forces successfully intercepted two explosive-laden drones launched by the Houthi group toward the central city of Marib. According to an unnamed military source cited by the ministry's September Net website, air defence units neutralized the threats as they approached residential neighborhoods and camps housing displaced people. There were no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the incident.
The military source emphasized that armed forces remain on high alert to detect and respond to such threats, ensuring the necessary measures are taken to protect civilians and their property. Earlier in the day, Deputy Information Minister Mohammed Qizan stated on X that the Houthis had resumed drone and missile strikes against residential areas in Marib, though he provided few additional details. Concurrently, the state-run Saba TV, broadcasting from Marib, reported renewed Houthi shelling targeting the densely populated city.
These events follow a deadly day in the region, as the Yemeni Health Ministry reported that two civilians were killed and 14 others were wounded in previous Houthi missile and drone attacks. On Friday, the Houthi group claimed they had targeted military equipment and gatherings at the Sahn al-Jin military camp in Marib. On that same day, the Yemeni army reported repelling a separate Houthi ground attack, noting no casualties or losses among their own forces.
Clashes between government forces and the Houthi group have seen an intensification across multiple front lines since early July, leading to dozens of casualties for both sides. Yemen has experienced a relative lull in its nearly 12-year conflict since April 2022. The Houthi movement has maintained control over the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since September 2014.
