The Yemeni army has reported conducting targeted air operations against Houthi supply lines and military positions located in the southwestern cities of Taiz and Mokha. In a statement released on Thursday, the army's media center confirmed that these strikes were carried out in Taiz province, an area of significant tactical importance near the Bab al Mandab Strait.
Prior to these latest strikes, the Yemeni army stated that it had successfully thwarted an offensive launched by the Houthis, subsequently striking the group’s reinforcements and gathering points within Taiz. There has been no official response or comment from the Houthis regarding the claims made by the military.
Government forces have noted an intensification of their military operations against Houthi positions and gatherings across several provinces, with a particular focus on Taiz. This surge in activity occurs amidst a week of escalating combat along Yemen's western coast. Recent reports indicate that the Houthis have secured control over strategic districts in both Hodeidah and Taiz provinces, including the city of Mokha, as well as Red Sea islands such as Mayyun in the Bab al Mandab Strait.
Simultaneously, government forces have reported advancements in Al-Jawf province as they push toward the capital, Al-Hazm. Persistent clashes are also ongoing in the provinces of Marib, Al-Dhale, and Al-Bayda. This broader escalation, which began in July, represents the most significant increase in hostilities since the relative stability following the April 2022 truce. Yemen has remained in a state of conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized control of Sanaa and other provinces, leading to the 2015 intervention by a Saudi-led coalition in support of the internationally recognized government.
