A series of Ukrainian drone strikes across Russia has resulted in at least five deaths and caused significant damage to industrial sites, including a warehouse operated by the e-commerce giant Wildberries. Local officials confirmed the attacks as part of an ongoing aerial campaign by Kyiv intended to pressure Moscow’s war effort and impact the Russian economy.
In the Udmurt Republic, acting regional head Olga Abramova reported that three civilians were killed and two others wounded during a drone strike. Abramova noted that air defenses intercepted two drones, preventing a larger attack, though a civilian vehicle sustained damage during the incident.
Separately, in the Saratov region, Gov. Roman Busargin confirmed that two people died after a drone struck a residential building. The strikes also damaged civil infrastructure in the regional capital of Saratov and in Engels, a city known for hosting a military airbase. Both locations have been frequent targets of Ukrainian strikes in recent years.
The campaign has specifically focused on Wildberries, Russia’s largest online marketplace. In the Samara region, located approximately 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, a drone strike ignited a fire at a company warehouse. Regional Gov. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the blaze, though he reported no casualties. This incident marks part of a broader trend, with over a dozen Wildberries depots struck by Ukraine in under two weeks. Since these operations began on July 18, targeting sites in Elektrostal, Tambov, and other areas, at least nine people have been killed and many more wounded.
Elsewhere in Russia, the Bashkortostan region faced a large-scale drone attack. Gov. Radiy Khabirov stated that air defenses repelled strikes on industrial facilities in Ufa, resulting in a fire that crews worked to extinguish. Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted 635 Ukrainian drones overnight, including those over occupied Crimea and the Black and Azov Seas, though the ministry did not disclose the total number of launched drones.
Meanwhile, Russia continued its own offensive operations. The Ukrainian air force reported that 133 drones were launched against them overnight, with 24 striking their intended targets. On Sunday, Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv resulted in the deaths of at least two people, according to local officials. In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian guided bomb hit a residential building, killing one person, while a separate strike in the outskirts of Kharkiv killed another individual and set fire to a postal terminal.
