A British citizen wanted in the United Kingdom for the murders of his wife and two young daughters has pleaded guilty to firearms charges in South Africa, where he was captured over the summer.
Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma entered the guilty plea on Tuesday in a South African court. He was arrested in Johannesburg on July 10 following an Interpol red notice, while carrying a weapon and ammunition. South African police have stated they suspect Tshuma intended to use the firearm to end his own life.
Following the conclusion of his local legal proceedings, South African authorities intend to extradite Tshuma back to the UK. British prosecutors have confirmed that he will be charged with three counts of murder upon his return.
The search for Tshuma began after his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, and their daughters, 15-year-old Natalie and 5-year-old Nala, were found dead on July 6. Their bodies were discovered at their residence near Bedford, a town north of London. Authorities reported that all three victims had suffered severe head injuries.
According to British investigators, Tshuma, who is of Zimbabwean heritage, is believed to have left the UK on July 4. Police trace his flight path to Zimbabwe before he arrived in South Africa, all occurring before the victims' bodies were discovered at their home.
