Ahead of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to strengthening fraternal ties and deepening cooperation across all sectors with fellow Turkic nations. Speaking on Thursday following a preparatory meeting of OTS foreign ministers, Fidan expressed optimism that the upcoming gathering, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, would bring significant benefits to the Turkic world.

Fidan noted that the consultations, which draw upon traditions inherited from previous generations, are intended to bolster solidarity and assist member states in realizing shared objectives. The summit, scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Ankara, is being held under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Deed.” The event is set to convene leaders from member states, senior representatives from observer countries, and the OTS secretary general to discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation, providing an opportunity to review existing partnerships and explore ways to expand collaboration across the Turkic world.

The organization, which was originally established as the Turkic Council in 2009, adopted its current title during the eighth summit held in Istanbul in 2021. Its five member states are Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, the group includes several observers: Turkmenistan, Hungary, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Economic Cooperation Organization. Fidan’s remarks underscore Ankara’s commitment to strengthening ties within the organization and advancing cooperation based on shared history, cultural links and common goals.
