Turkish National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin met with the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Haibat al Halbousi, in Ankara on Thursday. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations, with a primary focus on security and the resolution of outstanding issues.
During the meeting, the two officials explored various cooperation mechanisms intended to promote shared interests while bolstering regional security and stability. The talks also covered a wide range of economic and development topics, including the rehabilitation of Iraq’s water infrastructure, agricultural projects, housing, and general infrastructure development. A key point of discussion was the Development Road Project, which remains a central element of the bilateral strategic and economic ties.
Beyond infrastructure, the officials addressed Iraq's ongoing efforts to consolidate control over weapons exclusively under state authority. Speaker al Halbousi expressed his support for the Terror-Free Türkiye process, noting that the initiative’s success would carry significant positive implications for the wider region. Both sides concluded the meeting by agreeing to deepen their close cooperation on both bilateral and regional matters.
