Trump Dismisses AI Risk Warnings During Ireland Visit

President Donald Trump has publicly downplayed the risks associated with artificial intelligence, dismissing recent dire warnings from experts as the work of "negative forces." During a trip to Ireland, the President suggested that those raising concerns were focusing on scenarios "that won't happen."

While the President did not directly engage with the specific proposal to throttle AI development, he framed the issue through the lens of international competition. "We're leading China on AI… and, frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI, wins," Trump stated.

His remarks come on the heels of a call from top industry leaders to slow down the development of AI models. On Saturday, xAI owner Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman backed a warning from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who argued that slowing the pace of development is necessary "to reduce the risk that something goes seriously wrong." Amodei acknowledged, however, that any such deceleration must be limited to prevent China from gaining an advantage in the global AI race.

One of the warnings came from a former Anthropic researcher who said "there is a strong chance that we could all die in the immediate future" if the current pace of development continued.
