US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the formation of an “AI Force,” an initiative he plans to oversee with an appointed artificial intelligence “czar.” The announcement, made on his Truth Social platform, also included the launch of an online poll asking users whether the term “artificial intelligence” (AI) should be replaced with a different name.
Trump stated that the new “AI Force” would be modeled on the Space Force, which he established during his first term. “For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous success in my first term,” Trump wrote. He added, “To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI “Czar”; only high-IQ individuals need to apply!”
The President's announcement comes amid recent reports of AI systems demonstrating capabilities beyond industry expectations, which have led to calls for slower development and stronger government safeguards. However, Trump dismissed these concerns, labeling opposition to AI as another “hoax” and arguing that additional regulations would harm the industry. He affirmed his administration's approach: “We will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it as it grows.”
Earlier, Trump initiated an online poll to gauge public opinion on renaming “artificial intelligence.” He contended on Truth Social that the familiar term does not adequately describe what he views as a rapidly expanding technological revolution. “Many people think that the words 'Artificial Intelligence' are inaccurate and very ineloquent,” Trump wrote, suggesting alternatives such as “Superior Intelligence (SI),” “Extreme Intelligence (EI),” or “Supreme Intelligence (SI)” as more “elegant and accurate” descriptions.
Trump presented the question as a public poll and encouraged his followers to participate, concluding his post with a direct appeal: “This is a poll, and I would appreciate everybody voting! Which is the best name for this ever-growing 'Revolution'?”
