Sweden has experienced a substantial rise in early voter participation, with nearly one million citizens casting their ballots in the first week since the process began on August 26th. Data released by the Swedish Election Authority confirms that 992,863 voters participated during the initial seven-day period.
This turnout represents a 40 percent increase when measured against the corresponding timeframe of the 2022 election. These statistics, which remain preliminary, are derived from registrations within the digital electoral roll.
Anna Nyqvist, head of office at the Election Authority, stated that the agency is observing a significant surge in early voting compared to the 2022 cycle. According to Nyqvist, the figures from the first week suggest that the trend of increasing early participation is likely to persist throughout the remainder of the current election period.
Early voting is scheduled to continue through September 13th, which is also election day. In the 2022 election, a total of 3,153,628 people cast their ballots in advance.
