A Russian drone strike targeting a warehouse in the village of Myla has resulted in at least 27 deaths, according to local authorities. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, reported that the overnight attack also left at least 42 people injured, including four children. In the immediate aftermath, 381 residents were evacuated from the surrounding area.
The strike ignited a large-scale fire that spread to nearby private residential buildings. Tkachenko noted that the blaze, which was accompanied by multiple explosions, has since been extinguished in five houses and a catering establishment. Emergency and rescue teams continue to operate at the site of the incident.
Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into potential negligence regarding the storage conditions at the warehouse. The inquiry will examine the legality of the placement and storage of explosive objects at the enterprise, the availability of necessary permits, and the decision-making processes of officials involved. Social media footage, reportedly taken near the scene, shows a massive fireball rising into the night sky.
This incident occurred amid a broader surge in aerial activity. Ukraine's air force reported that since 6 pm on Friday, Russia has launched 267 drones, one Onyx anti-ship missile, and one Iskander ballistic missile. As of Saturday morning, local air defenses had neutralized 233 of the drones. Other recent attacks include a drone strike in Kherson that killed one man and caused blast and shrapnel injuries to a 44-year-old, as well as an assault on Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi district that left two people injured.
As Moscow and Kyiv intensify long-range strikes on logistics and energy facilities, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for an escalation in Ukrainian deep strikes on Russia, aiming for a target of 1,000 drone launches per day. He stated on Friday evening that while Ukraine currently averages over 300 long-range strikes, the number must increase.
"The attack caused a large-scale fire. The fire also spread to private residential buildings. Fires in 5 houses and a catering establishment have already been extinguished," Tkachenko wrote in a post on Telegram.
