The Guyana Amazon Warriors began their CPL 2026 campaign with a commanding six-wicket victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen in Kingston this Thursday. After restricting the Kingsmen to 117 all out, the Amazon Warriors chased down the target with 35 balls remaining, moving to the top of the league table while leaving the Kingsmen at the bottom after three consecutive losses.
Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off early as Shamar Joseph and Khary Pierre claimed wickets within the powerplay. The Kingsmen struggled to build momentum, with their only notable partnership coming from Reeza Hendricks and captain Rovman Powell, who added 35 runs for the third wicket. Hendricks finished as the top-scorer with 40 runs from 32 balls before falling to a caught-and-bowled dismissal by Tahir in the tenth over.
Following that breakthrough, the Kingsmen's innings collapsed, with the team losing their final wickets in just 9.4 overs. Mohammad Nabi was the standout performer, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 22, while Tahir and Joseph contributed one wicket each to help bundle out the opposition for 117.
The Amazon Warriors' chase faced an immediate hurdle when 21-year-old debutant Mavendra Dindyal was dismissed on the first ball by Jediah Blades. However, Shai Hope and Glenn Phillips stabilized the innings with a 42-run partnership off 31 balls. Although Andre Russell briefly threatened by removing both Phillips and Shimron Hetmyer in the sixth over, Hope remained composed at the crease. He anchored the chase with an unbeaten 56 from 41 balls, supported by useful contributions from Nabi, who scored 19 off 15, and Quentin Sampson, who remained 13 not out from nine balls, to guide the runners-up of the previous season to a successful start.
