Former Australia all-rounder Moises Henriques has offered a modest response to comparisons between himself and Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Both athletes share a common origin, having been born in Madeira, Portugal, before relocating abroad at a young age. Henriques moved to Australia at two years old, where he developed his cricket career, eventually playing 45 international matches across various formats between 2009 and 2021. Throughout that tenure, he accumulated 702 runs, including five fifties, and secured 17 wickets.
Currently, the 39-year-old is representing Portugal as they strive to qualify for the 2028 T20 cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Following a successful start to his captaincy, where Portugal defeated Israel by 94 runs, Henriques scored a fifty in his debut appearance. Despite the praise, he was quick to distinguish his achievements from those of Ronaldo, who holds the record as the most prolific scorer in international football with 976 career goals.
Reflecting on the comparison, Henriques told Wisden's The Scoop that the magnitude of Ronaldo's career, highlighted by his participation in six FIFA World Cups, remains unparalleled. "I'm not sure one T20 World Cup is the same as six FIFA World Cups," Henriques stated. "I'm not sure I'm going to be getting an airport in Madeira like Cristiano does, but if I get a bus stop, I'll be happy."
