Mason Greenwood has finalized his move to Fenerbahce from Olympique Marseille, bringing an end to one of the most high-profile transfer sagas of the summer. The deal is valued at €39 million, plus additional bonuses, with the total fee to be paid to the French club in three installments over the next three years. As part of the financial agreement, Marseille is obligated to pay 40 percent of the profit from the transfer to Manchester United, Greenwood’s former club. Additionally, Fenerbahce will cover the required solidarity contribution to Getafe.
AS Roma had identified Greenwood as their primary target to bolster their attacking options following their qualification for the Champions League. Despite being prepared to offer a higher transfer fee than the amount ultimately agreed upon by Fenerbahce, the Italian club could not match the reported salary of €10 million per season offered by the Turkish side. Roma’s pursuit was further complicated by a fan-led petition that urged the club to refrain from signing the player due to his history involving domestic violence allegations.
The player’s preference for a move to Turkiye also played a significant role in the outcome. Greenwood held direct negotiations with two different presidential candidates at Fenerbahce, ultimately deciding on the move weeks ago. Although other clubs, including Atletico Madrid and various Saudi Pro League sides, expressed interest in the Englishman, he chose to finalize the agreement with the Turkish giants. The transfer was officially confirmed on July 14, 2026.
