A week of extensive funeral processions, public rallies, and mourning ceremonies for Iran’s late leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is set to reach its conclusion this Thursday. The final rites will see the leader laid to rest at the nation’s most sacred shrine located in Mashhad.
These observances have taken place against a backdrop of intensifying conflict between Tehran and the United States. Despite the scale of the national mourning, the late leader’s son and successor, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, has notably refrained from making any public appearances throughout the week.
