The Palestinian resistance group Hamas announced it is currently awaiting a "clear and official response" from Board of Peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov and relevant mediators. The inquiry concerns the understandings reached regarding the implementation of the second phase of the existing Gaza ceasefire agreement.
In a statement released on the group’s Telegram channel, a senior Hamas source reaffirmed the commitment of Hamas and other Palestinian factions to the agreed-upon terms, noting their dedication to fulfilling the obligations required of all parties involved. This follows an announcement on Friday by the Board of Peace and United States President Donald Trump, who declared that an agreement had been reached to move forward with the next phase of the ceasefire, with the board noting that Hamas had accepted a detailed roadmap.
Despite the current ceasefire, which has been in effect since October 10, 2025, reports indicate ongoing military tensions. The daily newspaper Israel Hayom reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed Mladenov that Israel would not withdraw from positions currently under its control in Gaza and would not cease fire. Netanyahu claimed that Hamas continues to rebuild its military capabilities within the enclave.
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties since October 2023, with Israel killing more than 73,000 people and injuring over 174,000 others in the war. According to data provided by the Gaza Health Ministry, even with the ceasefire in effect since October 10, 2025, Israeli attacks have persisted, resulting in the deaths of 1,250 Palestinians and leaving 4,110 others injured.
