Manchester United fell to a defeat against their former manager Ruben Amorim as AC Milan secured a victory in their friendly match. Despite taking the lead twice through Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu, United were unable to hold off the Italian side, ultimately conceding four goals.
United captain Bruno Fernandes provided the assist for the opening goal in the second minute, curling in a corner that Harry Maguire headed home powerfully. Milan responded when a defensive error allowed Goncalo Ramos to break into the box and square the ball for Samuel Chukwueze to score. Before the halftime break, United had a chance to regain the lead via a penalty after Koni De Winter fouled Youri Tielemans. However, Fernandes saw his spot-kick saved by goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, who dove to his right to stop the effort. This marked the second consecutive friendly in which the captain missed from the spot.
The Red Devils managed to reclaim the advantage early in the second half when Patrick Dorgu capitalized on a loose backpass from Filippo Terracciano. Milan leveled the score once more when Alphadjo Cisse converted a wayward shot from Chukwueze at the far post. The Italian side pushed ahead in the 68th minute as Goncalo Ramos headed in a cross from Chukwueze. Three minutes later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek sprinted clear of the defense to secure the fourth goal for Milan.
Marcus Rashford made his return to the pitch as a substitute on the hour mark, marking his first appearance for United since his loan spell at Barcelona. Rashford had previously been sidelined by Amorim and loaned out to Aston Villa before his stint in Spain. Michael Carrick, who took over full-time after leading the club to a third-place finish as a caretaker, remains at the helm while Amorim continues his tenure at Milan following his departure from Old Trafford in January.
Portuguese boss Amorim was sacked as United manager in January after 14 months in charge, with former Red Devils and ex-England midfielder Carrick, now in charge full-time, leading the club to a creditable third-place finish after initially being brought in on a caretaker basis.
