Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has officially congratulated Azerbaijan on its Independence Restoration Day, conveying warm greetings to President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people. In a message shared on X on Sunday, President Erdogan stated that he wholeheartedly congratulates the friendly and brotherly nation on behalf of his country and himself. He expressed his commitment to the Azerbaijani people, noting that the two nations remain united in both sorrow and joy.

Azerbaijan observes its independence annually on October 18, a date that commemorates the adoption of the Constitutional Law on the Independence of the State in 1991. This legislative act established the nation as the successor to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which held sovereignty between 1918 and 1920. Following Azerbaijan’s declaration of independence on August 30, 1991, Türkiye became the first nation to formally recognize the country's sovereignty on November 9 of that same year. In June 2021, the bilateral relationship was further strengthened through the Shusha Declaration, which elevated their ties to the level of an alliance.

Reflecting on the strength of this partnership, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan noted on Thursday that relations between the two countries are built on robust strategic foundations, having been tested through various crises and wars. During the seventh CICA summit in Baku, Fidan emphasized that the "two states, one nation" principle is evident throughout their bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the "unshakable bond of friendship and brotherhood" between the leaders of the two countries. While acknowledging that differences on certain issues may arise, Fidan warned against allowing such matters to be used for propaganda on social media or to undermine the strategic alliance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
