Speaking to journalists during the team's pre-season tour in Asia, Maresca explained that he established a specific rule during his time at Leicester and Chelsea where the captain must report to the touchline for tactical instructions instead of joining in goal celebrations. He noted that if Haaland were captain, the constant need to report to the bench would create a significant problem given his high goal-scoring frequency. The manager joked that if Haaland were in that position, they would certainly have a logistical issue on their hands.
Maresca emphasized that even short periods after a goal are vital for making adjustments. The team is currently assessing their leadership group following the departure of Bernardo Silva at the end of last season, with several candidates currently under consideration. Rodri, who is currently recovering from back surgery and has been subject to transfer links involving Barcelona, remains a key figure whose future is being monitored.
