The Syrian defence ministry has confirmed that 11 soldiers lost their lives following an explosion at a military site located in the Ayyash area, west of Deir Ezzor province. The announcement of the casualty toll on Saturday followed the initial report of the incident, which occurred on Friday.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the funeral procession for the fallen soldiers departed from the National Hospital in Deir Ezzor city. While the ministry’s Media and Communications Department acknowledged the blast on Friday, they did not provide a casualty figure at that time, stating only that authorities were investigating the causes and assessing the consequences of the event.
State-run Alikhbariah TV reported that civil defence teams and ambulances were dispatched to the scene immediately after the explosion. As of the latest update, the specific nature and circumstances surrounding the blast remain undisclosed by authorities, who continue their investigation into the incident.
