A 31-year-old British woman has died after being stabbed at a railway station in Rosenheim, Bavaria, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police confirmed that the woman was attacked shortly before 01:00 local time (00:00 BST) and was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Bavarian Police have taken a 27-year-old German man into custody, having arrested him at the scene immediately following the incident. According to the German news agency DPA, the suspect is from the Fürstenfeldbruck district and is scheduled to be presented before magistrates later on Sunday.
Authorities have not yet established a motive for the attack, and it remains unclear whether the victim and the suspect were acquainted. It is also unknown why the woman was visiting the region. Police are currently appealing for witnesses who may have seen an argument or a physical altercation at the station late on Saturday or early on Sunday to come forward.
Rosenheim serves as a significant rail hub in Upper Bavaria, connecting passengers to Austrian cities such as Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbruck. The incident occurs while the Rosenheimer Herbstfest, a local festival similar to the Oktoberfest, is currently underway in the area.
