T. Dilip is poised to depart from his position as the fielding coach for the Indian cricket team, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to offer him a contract renewal. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the development, noting that Dilip’s one-year extension has concluded and that the recent series in England served as his final assignment with the squad.
The search for a successor is already underway, with Subhadeep Ghosh of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) emerging as the primary candidate to fill the vacancy. Ghosh previously traveled with the Indian team to Zimbabwe to serve as the fielding coach. Dilip’s departure marks the second change to the Indian support staff recently, following the exit of Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate, who stepped down from his role on July 14.
Dilip originally joined the Indian support staff in 2021, succeeding R. Sridhar. During his tenure, he worked alongside Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey under the leadership of former head coach Rahul Dravid. Following the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach, Dilip remained the only member of the previous support staff to be retained, a decision supported by the recommendation of captain Rohit Sharma.
While his contract was initially slated to run until May 2025, he had been operating under a temporary extension granted last year. His tenure as fielding coach faced scrutiny during recent tours to Ireland and England, where the team struggled with dropping regulation catches. At the time of this report, Dilip could not be reached for comment regarding the board's decision.
