The Melbourne Renegades have officially appointed Gavan Twining as their head coach for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Twining, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Australia women's team, will join the club following the conclusion of Australia's series against Bangladesh and New Zealand in October. He is set to return to his national coaching role once the WBBL season concludes.
Twining replaces Simon Helmot, who departed the franchise during the off-season to pursue other opportunities. In his new role, Twining will leverage his experience working with Australian captain Sophie Molineux, who also leads the Renegades. While Twining completes his national duties, Renegades high-performance manager Clint McKay will oversee the team during the T20 Spring Challenge.
Expressing confidence in the appointment, Renegades general manager Max Abbott stated that Twining is an outstanding addition who brings valuable World Cup-winning experience to the program. Abbott noted that the team already possesses a positive environment and that Twining was selected as the ideal person to build upon the squad's existing leadership.
