AC Milan May Retain Rafael Leao Amid Market Shifts

AC Milan may be preparing to retain Rafael Leao as the club faces a significant shift in their transfer strategy. This potential change in direction comes as Christopher Nkunku has been placed on the market, with no major offers emerging at the €50m mark. The development has raised concerns among the Milanisti, who suggest that the sudden exclusion of the striker from the club's vision, just over a week before the start of the Serie A season, indicates a lack of planning.

The club's initial strategy likely centered on the sale of Leao to fund a new winger, following an investment of nearly €80m to acquire Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. However, as various clubs have turned their attention elsewhere, Leao finds himself increasingly stranded at San Siro, despite having declared months ago that his time at the club was finished and that he was seeking a new challenge.

Given that his contract runs until June 2028, the current situation could lead to a radical change in approach. It is now considered possible that the club will initiate discussions regarding a new contract extension for Leao, potentially on a lower or at least non-improved salary. Under this scenario, the player would aim to achieve greater consistency under Portuguese coach Amorim. With Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez both potentially on the move, it appears increasingly probable that Leao will remain with AC Milan.
