Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has expressed his gratitude to the Turkish people for the "warm welcome" afforded to Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, who recently joined the Turkish football club Trabzonspor.

"We thank the Turkish people for the warm welcome extended to star player Mohamed Salah of Trabzonspor, which has touched our hearts," Shoukry stated on Thursday during a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, who is on an official visit to Egypt.

Shoukry also commented on broader bilateral relations, noting that ties between Türkiye and Egypt are "indeed built on strong foundations." He affirmed Egypt's stance against Israeli actions, stating, "We oppose and condemn all Israeli attacks on Syria’s sovereignty." Furthermore, Egypt shares full agreement with Türkiye on supporting Sudan’s territorial integrity and rejects any division of the country.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Shoukry said, "The Palestinian groups in Gaza have acted responsibly with respect to laying down their arms and beginning the political process. Israel must also fulfil its obligations."
