Newly-minted Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri delivered a memorable induction speech in Canton, Ohio, characterized by sharp humor directed at some of the most prominent figures in his career. The legendary kicker, who secured his place in history as the third kicker inducted behind Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen, did not hold back when addressing the absence of his former New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick.
Vinatieri joked that Belichick was missing the ceremony because he was busy scouting for the next Lawrence Taylor at UNC or perhaps tied up with training camp. However, he ultimately landed a punchline suggesting the 74-year-old coach was actually busy judging his 25-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson’s cheerleading competition. Despite the jab, Vinatieri quickly pivoted to express his genuine respect for the coach, labeling him the greatest of all time.
The roasting continued as Vinatieri turned his attention to his former Indianapolis Colts teammate, Peyton Manning. He joked that Manning was present to generously donate his forehead as a teleprompter for the event. Furthermore, former Colts punter and media personality Pat McAfee also became a target. Vinatieri remarked that McAfee was the only person who enjoyed holding his balls more than his wife, clarifying that his wife was the one who actually held for him during the offseason.
The event celebrated a storied 24-year career for Vinatieri, who finished his time in the NFL with 599 field goals and an league-record 2,673 points. Throughout his career, he secured four Super Bowl rings, including three under Belichick in New England during the early 2000s.
