Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the media during his second news conference since taking office, asserting that Tehran's long-standing position toward Washington has not been altered by recent diplomatic efforts. Describing the United States as both "colonialist" and "criminal," Pezeshkian maintained a firm stance while simultaneously arguing that diplomacy had successfully compelled Washington to engage in negotiations with Iran.
Addressing concerns regarding a memorandum signed between the two nations, the president rejected criticisms that the agreement required Iran to make concessions. He insisted that the document contains no clauses forcing Iran to relinquish its interests, stating that Tehran remains fully committed to the terms of the agreement. Furthermore, he defended his negotiating team as a group of "dedicated, expert and hard-working" individuals, dismissing criticism directed at them as unfair.
Pezeshkian also raised allegations that Washington has violated the memorandum by pursuing alternative shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, rather than adhering to established procedures intended to be jointly managed by Iran and Oman. He expressed hope that existing mechanisms within the memorandum would resolve these disputes in a manner that maintains "dignity and honour" for Iran.
In addition to foreign policy matters, the president touched on domestic issues, noting that his administration is coordinating with the heads of the three branches of government and the Supreme National Security Council. He stated that they are currently working to ease internet restrictions while balancing the necessary considerations for national security and infrastructure.
