Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is looking toward the 2026 season with a renewed sense of purpose following a frustrating 2025 campaign. Despite the team's early exit in the wild card round last season, the three-time Pro Bowler remains focused on securing another Lombardi Trophy. Barkley, who was instrumental in the Eagles' 2024 Super Bowl run and earned the Offensive Player of the Year Award that same year, recently shared his perspective on the addictive nature of championship success during an appearance on the “Up & Adams” show.
Reflecting on his previous title, Barkley noted that winning a championship creates a lingering hunger that is difficult to satisfy. “I think it's once you get the opportunity to win a Super Bowl and have that confetti fall on you and hold that trophy and have that parade, you kind of get like greedy,” he explained. He likened the experience to a bag of candy, suggesting that once you have a taste of success, you find yourself constantly returning for more. He added that he wants to recapture that feeling regardless of the personal statistics he accumulates, noting that while his first title followed a 2,000-yard rushing season, he is willing to do whatever is necessary to put the team in a position to win again.
The 2025 season saw a dip in production for the star running back, who finished with 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns. Barkley acknowledged the challenges the team faced but remains optimistic about a resurgence in 2026. He emphasized that his primary motivation is the team's success, which he believes is the foundation for achieving individual accolades. According to Barkley, when a player adopts a team-first mindset, personal goals—such as hitting specific yardage marks or reaching the Hall of Fame—naturally follow as part of the territory. As he looks ahead, the veteran running back is committed to prioritizing the collective goal of competing for a championship above his own individual ambitions.
