Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has officially approved a protocol designed to provide financial assistance to the Palestinian Embassy in Azerbaijan. The decree confirming this move was published on the official website of the Azerbaijani presidency on Monday.
This protocol was originally signed in Baku on July 10, 2026. Following the president's approval, the Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with taking the necessary measures to implement the agreement once it officially enters into force. Additionally, the foreign ministry has received instructions to notify the Palestinian government that Azerbaijan has successfully completed all required domestic procedures for the accord to take effect.
The decision follows a high-level meeting held on July 16 between President Aliyev and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. During these discussions, the Azerbaijani leader reaffirmed his country’s ongoing support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital.
This latest aid initiative builds upon a long-standing history of support from Baku, which has provided more than $9.2 million in humanitarian and social assistance to Palestine through collaborations with the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Previous contributions include $5 million directed toward infrastructure modernization in Jerusalem and $630,000 provided to Gaza between 2013 and 2014. Furthermore, Azerbaijan allocated $1.6 million between 2021 and 2023 to help mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in late 2024, the government announced an additional $2 million to support affected communities and fund the construction of a new school in Palestine.
