Ryan ten Doeschate has officially stepped down as an assistant coach for the India men's cricket team. His departure follows the conclusion of the team's white-ball series in the United Kingdom, where India faced losses in both the T20I and ODI series. It is expected that ten Doeschate will return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to take up a coaching position.
Alongside ten Doeschate, fielding coach T Dilip will also be leaving the set-up as his contract has not been extended. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified to PTI that the departures are not resignations, as the respective contracts have simply reached their natural conclusion. Ten Doeschate’s contract ended on June 10, while Dilip’s tenure concluded on June 8. Saikia noted that the BCCI had retained both individuals through the end of the UK tour but decided against offering extensions. The board is currently in negotiations with two or three candidates for the fielding coach position and aims to finalize an appointment within the next few days, ensuring a new coach is in place for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in August.
Ten Doeschate had been a core member of the India think-tank since being handpicked by head coach Gautam Gambhir following the 2024 T20 World Cup, filling roles across both batting and fielding departments. His tenure coincided with major successes, including victories at the 2024 Champions Trophy, 2025 Asia Cup, and a successful defense of the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, though the Test team faced significant challenges, including a 2025-26 Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss in Australia and home series sweeps by New Zealand and South Africa. At KKR, he is set to reunite with Abhishek Nayar, with whom he previously worked in the India set-up and at the franchise. Ten Doeschate, a two-time IPL winner as a player with KKR in 2012 and 2014, previously served as the franchise's fielding coach from 2022 until 2024. T Dilip’s departure marks the end of his second stint with the national side, having served as fielding coach from 2021 through the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy before returning for a one-year stint during the 2025 Test tour of the UK.
