A series of Russian aerial attacks across Ukraine resulted in the deaths of six people, including a child, while leaving 29 others wounded, according to official reports released on Saturday. Concurrently, Ukrainian military forces launched drone strikes that damaged more than two dozen Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the overnight operation damaged 21 tankers used for transporting oil and petroleum products, along with four tugboats, two cargo ships, and a dredging vessel. Conversely, Russian officials asserted that only four ships were targeted and claimed that one individual was killed during the Ukrainian drone strikes.
The human toll of the Russian bombardment was significant in the northeast Sumy region, where regional head Oleh Hryhorov confirmed that four people, including a child, were killed and 17 others wounded after two aerial glide bombs struck a crowded area. In the southern Odesa region, regional head Oleh Kiper reported that two people were killed and one man was wounded by shrapnel following a Russian missile strike on a building. Another man was wounded by shrapnel.
In Kyiv, the State Emergency Service documented that 11 people, including one child, were wounded during overnight missile and drone attacks. Explosions and subsequent fires affected the Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russia launched 121 drones and 12 missiles, six of which were ballistic. While most drones and some missiles were intercepted, Zelenskyy emphasized that the ballistic missiles reached their targets, highlighting ongoing gaps in Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Ukrainian air defenses claimed to have suppressed or destroyed 111 drones and two missiles, with the air force reporting direct hits at 11 separate locations.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its forces targeted drone manufacturing facilities in Kyiv, as well as ports in Izmail and Chornomorsk. Additionally, the ministry claimed that Russian air defenses intercepted 178 Ukrainian drones overnight across eight Russian regions, the Black and Azov seas, and the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula.
