The death toll from a Russian attack in southern Ukraine, where civilians had gathered to receive humanitarian aid, rose to 29 on Tuesday. Authorities reported that 48 people remain missing following the strike, which occurred as a massive wave of overnight attacks targeted power plants, hospitals, and other infrastructure across the country. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles across nine regions, leading to emergency power cuts. The barrage coincided with U.S. elections, prompting Zelenskyy to remark that Russia believes the timing will go unnoticed, adding, "But we need to notice and stop such terror. We need to help Ukraine defend its skies; otherwise, Russia will never stop its missile strikes."
The guided-bomb attack in the village of Komyushuvakha, located in the Zaporizhzhia region, initially struck a school building used for aid distribution before hitting a nearby shelter. Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the regional military administration, confirmed that the victims included four police officers and two rescue workers, with at least five other individuals sustaining injuries. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, a combined missile and drone assault wounded at least 62 people. Local authorities reported that a medical facility in the Nemyshlianskyi district was damaged, along with four apartment buildings and several vehicles. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional military administration, noted that more than 200 patients were transferred to other facilities due to the damage.
In the Dnipro area, rescuers successfully pulled a woman from the rubble on Tuesday morning following an attack that killed one person and wounded 17. The strike damaged an outpatient clinic and a hospital, forcing the transfer of patients to other medical centers, according to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration. Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 856 Ukrainian drones overnight, and Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that 493 drones were fired toward the Russian capital. In the Russian city of Yaroslavl, a Ukrainian drone attack damaged infrastructure at an oil refinery and wounded two employees, regional Governor Mikhail Yevrayev reported. Additionally, Moscow-installed officials in Russian-occupied Crimea confirmed that rolling blackouts were implemented across the south, west, and east of the territory following strikes on energy infrastructure.
