Tensions escalated in Tirana, Albania, on Saturday as opposition demonstrators took to the streets to voice their discontent. Supporters of the opposition Democratic Party gathered outside the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama for approximately an hour and a half, where they burned a collection of pillows. These items had been placed at the site by the prime minister as a symbolic invitation for students to engage in dialogue.

Following the demonstration at the prime minister’s office, the group headed toward the Ministry of Education. This movement coincided with a separate student protest announced for 2 pm local time at the same ministry, with university lecturers also expected to join the mobilization.

In anticipation of the gathering, authorities have significantly increased security measures around the Ministry of Education. Security forces, including units from Albania's Rapid Intervention Forces (FNSH) and a water cannon, have been deployed near the building following social media calls encouraging students to join the protest. Authorities are currently preparing for possible confrontations as the various groups converge on the ministry.

Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the growing public unrest, acknowledging that his government is preparing a response to the grievances voiced during the demonstrations. He stated that the government would present a reflection on what a significant portion of society is trying to convey within a matter of hours or days, noting that public sympathy for the movement reflects a desire for the government to become more attentive. However, Rama also issued a stern warning against violence, pledging a sustained response from the authorities. He emphasized that just as the urban terror was intense, concentrated, and prolonged, so too would the state's response be prolonged and persistent.
