A tragic building collapse in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar has resulted in the deaths of 28 people, including 27 pupils and one teacher. The incident occurred on Thursday when a school roof gave way, prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities.

Muhammad Asim Khan, an official from Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital, confirmed the casualty toll, noting that all the children who lost their lives were aged 13 or younger. In addition to the fatalities, more than 30 people sustained injuries during the collapse. Six of the survivors are currently reported to be in critical condition, and the hospital has declared a state of emergency to manage the influx of victims.

Bilal Ahmed Faizi, a spokesperson for the emergency service Rescue 1122, stated that rescue teams have been actively transporting students and teachers from the site to nearby medical facilities. A large-scale rescue operation remains ongoing at the school.

Building collapses are a recurring issue in Pakistan, often attributed to the use of poor-quality construction materials and a lack of adherence to safety regulations. This incident follows a similar tragedy in June, when 14 children were killed after the roof of a private tuition center collapsed in the Kahna area of Lahore.
