Cristiano Ronaldo has officially departed the Portugal national team's training camp in Scandinavia. The 41-year-old forward announced his decision on Instagram late Wednesday afternoon, following discussions with both national coach Jorge Jesus and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The departure comes despite earlier efforts to stabilize the team environment. On Tuesday night, talks between Ronaldo and coach Jorge Jesus appeared to suggest that the internal friction within the squad was being resolved. However, Ronaldo’s subsequent exit confirms that significant issues remain unresolved within the national side.
Ronaldo, who has missed training for three consecutive days, was seen leaving the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen—the site of Thursday's upcoming Nations League match against Denmark—in a Portuguese Football Federation van. His exit occurred while his teammates, with the exception of the injured Francisco Conceição, were actively participating in a training session on the pitch.
Minutes before his departure, coach Jorge Jesus had publicly insisted to reporters that Ronaldo would participate in the day's training, attributing his absence from previous sessions solely to gym work. Ronaldo’s statement on social media directly addressed the situation, noting that his decision followed the coach's press conference and a dialogue with the federation president.
"In due course, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national side, to which I have always been dedicated," Ronaldo wrote. He concluded his message by wishing his teammates "good luck" without exception.
