Regional authorities in Ukraine have reported that a series of Russian drone strikes targeting the capital, Kiev, resulted in at least three deaths and left more than 10 people wounded. The attack was part of a broader aerial offensive launched by Moscow across the country.
According to the Kiev regional prosecutor's office, one of the drones struck a local market in the village of Sofiivska Borshchahivka. Other impacts across the capital region caused significant damage to civilian vehicles and ignited large fires in commercial warehouses and office buildings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian forces have launched 277 attack drones of various models since Saturday, causing widespread damage to civilian infrastructure.
The destruction extended to a facility used as the official residence of the Saudi Arabian ambassador, as well as kindergartens, schools, residential homes, an auto repair facility, and critical communications infrastructure. Further strikes were documented in the city of Dnipro, where a sports school was hit, and in the Sumy region, where a children's home was targeted. President Zelenskyy condemned the actions, stating, "Russia has no military objective whatsoever in doing this – it is purely an attempt to break people and inflict as much harm as possible on our society."
Zelenskyy also rejected recent diplomatic overtures from Moscow, arguing they are intended to forestall international action. He stated that if Russia were genuinely preparing for de-escalation, this wave of "shahed" terror would not be occurring. Conversely, the Russian Defence Ministry stated via Telegram that its forces targeted communications and logistics hubs, as well as a cargo vessel in Odesa and Kiev that it alleged was carrying military supplies, maintaining that its operations are directed only at military assets.
