Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan marked Azerbaijan's Remembrance Day on Sunday by paying tribute to the soldiers who died during the military efforts to reclaim the Karabakh region. In a message shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan expressed his gratitude to those who served, stating, "On the occasion of the Remembrance Day of our friend and sibling Azerbaijan, I commemorate with mercy our heroic martyrs who fought to liberate Karabakh from occupation and restore its freedom, and our veterans with respect."
Alongside his tributes, the Turkish president firmly restated his position regarding the geopolitical status of the region. "Karabakh is Azerbaijani territory and will remain so forever," Erdogan declared.
Karabakh, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, was the focal point of a protracted conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The dispute lasted for decades until 2023, when Azerbaijan successfully regained full control over the territory through a military operation.
