Israeli authorities have initiated a comprehensive closure of the occupied West Bank, significantly restricting the movement of Palestinians. The measures, which involve the sealing of crossings into the territory and increased military presence at various checkpoints, are scheduled to remain in effect until Saturday, October 3. Officials cited the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, as the primary justification for the move.
Reports from the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, indicate that the restrictions have already impacted multiple areas. On Sunday, Israeli forces tightened control around Ramallah and Al-Bireh by blocking several entrances and roads. Local sources further reported that entrances to the towns of Turmus Ayya, Aboud, Nabi Saleh, Atara, and Taybeh were closed. Additionally, military checkpoints have been established in Yabroud, Ein Sinya, and Jaba’ to conduct vehicle searches and verify the identification of Palestinian residents.
These developments occur against a backdrop of intensified activity by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023. According to official Palestinian figures released during this period, at least 1,206 Palestinians—including 254 children—have been killed. The data also notes that approximately 13,350 individuals have been wounded, with more than 24,600 people arrested by Israeli authorities.
