Fatima Sana is set to captain Pakistan in the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup, which is scheduled to begin in Dubai on August 28. Sana, who recently became the first Pakistani female player to participate in the tournament, had previously missed the T20I portion of the team's tour of Sri Lanka due to her commitments with Birmingham Phoenix. The 15-member squad also marks the return of Sadia Iqbal, who did not travel for the Sri Lanka tour, and Gull Feroza, who makes her way back after being excluded from the T20I leg of that same series.
The squad for the Asia Cup features Fatima Sana as captain, alongside Ayesha Zafar, Eman Naseer, Eyman Fatima, Gull Feroza, Momina Riasat, Muneeba Ali Siddiqui (wicketkeeper), Najiha Alvi, Nashra Sundhu, Sadia Iqbal, Saira Jabeen, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar. Reserves for the tournament include Tasmia Rubab, Humna Bilal, and Maham Anees.
Ahead of the competition, the team will participate in a 10-day training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, running from Sunday through August 25. Pakistan's Asia Cup campaign opens with a match against Thailand on September 1. The two teams are also set to meet again on September 17 during the quarterfinals of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Adjustments have been made to the roster for the upcoming Asian Games in September. Sadia Iqbal, Waheeda Akhtar, and Najiha Alvi will not be part of the squad for Japan, with Aliya Riaz, Tasmia Rubab, and Humna Bilal joining the team instead. Veteran pacer Diana Baig has been excluded from both the Asia Cup and Asian Games squads, including the list of reserves. The Asian Games roster consists of Fatima Sana (captain), Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Zafar, Eman Naseer, Eyman Fatima, Gull Feroza, Humna Bilal, Momina Riasat, Muneeba Ali Siddiqui (wicketkeeper), Nashra Sundhu, Saira Jabeen, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Tasmia Rubab, Tuba Hassan, and Umm-e-Hani, with reserves Natalia Parvaiz, Waheeda Akhtar, Sadia Iqbal, Syeda Aroob Shah, and Rameen Shamim.
