11 civilians were wounded during attacks carried out by Yemen's Houthi group on Saudi Arabia's southern Najran region, according to the Riyadh-led coalition that supports Yemen's internationally recognized government. Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki stated on Friday that the incidents occurred on Thursday.
Among the 11 victims were seven Saudi nationals, including a woman and a 4-year-old child who sustained second-degree burns. The remaining four individuals injured in the attacks included two Egyptian nationals, one Yemeni, and one Pakistani national.
Al-Maliki characterized the assault as an indiscriminate use of projectiles against civilian areas. He accused the Houthi group of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, actions he stated are in violation of international humanitarian law. In response, the coalition declared its intention to continue implementing "deterrent measures" to ensure the protection of civilians from future aggression.
The incident follows a period of heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group. In recent weeks, the Iran-aligned group has imposed what it terms a naval blockade on the kingdom within the Red Sea and has asserted responsibility for a series of attacks directed at Saudi military and shipping targets. The Saudi government has retaliated against these recent Houthi actions by conducting strikes against various military sites located in Yemen.
