A legal representative for the family of 18-year-old Wells has formally requested assistance in uncovering the circumstances surrounding his recent death. The young man’s body was discovered on July 6 on the northwestern tip of Horn Island, a secluded barrier island featuring a beach along the Gulf of Mexico.
Wells had traveled to the island during the Fourth of July holiday period alongside a group of friends he knew from his high school days in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Following the holiday, he was reported missing before the discovery of his remains.
Among the primary concerns raised by the family’s lawyer on Friday is the unexplained location of the teenager’s mobile phone. Investigators have been asked to address why the device was not found with the victim’s body, but was instead recovered in the possession of one of the friends who had accompanied him on the trip.
